Question 1

  1. What have you learnt about the importance of research and planning?
Research and planning has played a crucial role in producing our music video. Our first step was to decide which music video we wanted to recreate and how we would do it. In order to do this we watched some videos and examined various factors like mise en scene, editing, camera shots etc.

As a group we were able to agree and decide on 'Fancy by Iggy Azalea Ft Charlie XCX' due to its location since it was based in a school. This made it both convenient as well as challenging because we had to ensure each location was a close match to the original.

To make a close replica of 'Fancy' meant carefully viewing the music video multiple times in order to sort out timing and gain an understanding of the video. We were limited to 1minute 30 seconds of recording time which meant choosing the most appropriate time frame within the video. In pairs we each examined 30 seconds of the clip to note down timings, edits, camera shots and mise en scene. This played to our advantage as we minimised the time spent analysing and focused on starting the recording. Observing the video meant we could note down the cast number which varied from each scene. These tasks are very useful in creating the music video and I have learnt to make sure I carry out this task to my best effort.

Planning was the final  task before starting the filming and this involved scheduling the most appropriate film time for the group as well as allocating roles. This was important as it allowed us to be organised and gain a sense of confidence in preparation for the filming. Personally I found that planning helped me be aware of the contribution I needed to make the group.

Overall, planning and research was an important task needed to complete the music video and become organised.
