website Draft 3

http://canishachakadya.wix.com/jamesbay

There are several changes that I have carried out since the last draft for the webpage.

1. I have decided to add a landing page, which is the first place people arrive onto when they click the webpage. To make the page interactive, I opted to place a video of the woods that I shot myself as I felt that set the atmosphere of the website and James Bay. This atmosphere is a mysterious but soothing one just like the sound of his music.

2. On this landing page there are various buttons the direct you to other parts of the website like news, tourdates and the home page. This is a guide for the audience and provides them with a variety of things to look at of their choice.

3. Following some feedback from my target audience, they informed me that my home page looked too cluttered, so I decided to remove the instagram attachment and also reduced the size of the gallery to stop it taking too much space. Additionally, the layout is more spread out with each of the boxes surrounding the artist face so that the audience can clearly see him.

Digipak draft 3

There are several changes that I have made since the last updates about the digipak.

1. I inserted another manipulated image of the woods shot by myself a couple of days ago. I felt this image was symbolic as it represented the calm in the 'chaos and the calm' title in comparison to the waves for the 'chaos'.

2. Made the 3/4 parts of the digipak black and white as I felt that is what the album represented, James Bay sharing parts of himself clearly without any confusion and mixed feelings that using colour for the images. This juxtaposes the main image of the head shake in the top right side of the digipak, which suggests to the audience that his mind is not straightforward.

3. I like the way that all the images work together to represent the artist in a clear and honest way with the clear image on the front page to the mid-shot reflection on the back cover.

Progress Log 18/12/15

Today we finished our video and completed filling the gaps that were left. We have also added the final filters and transitions to ensure our video is smooth and consistent with the other effects. This process has been enjoyable but challenging due to our computer glitches on the video. We are happy with the final results.

website draft 2

Progress Log 17/12/15

This morning Ella and I continued work on our music video in the form of editing. We have managed to fill in the necessary gaps and created our second draft. When we watched through this video we found that it glitched or showed a delay in the visuals to the sounds, so we have decided to ask for some help before we fully upload it to remove any issues. One of the final things we need to do for our video is implement some special effects and colour correction to ensure there is continuity.

Digipak Images

These are the images I selected for my digipak as I felt they showed my artist really well with the close up and mid-shots as well as establish a brand. The use of the image of the sea was because I felt it went well with the first part of the album title 'Chaos' and was symbolic. All the images used for my digipak and website are my own.

Each of the images were manipulated appropriately to create the desired image I wanted to achieve.

AFTER
To achieve this edit I opened up paint software and placed a circle around the desired area that I wanted for my disc. Following this I opened it up on Serif Page plus and used the Cutout Studio feature to highlight the circle and crop the background. This was challenging to initially figure out however in the end I achieved my desired result and further cropped it in half.

BEFORE

AFTER
To get this effect I edited it within Serif PagePlus under the Photolab tool to get the black and white effect. I also brightened up the image and reduced the saturation in order to see more of the image. Following that I changed the transparency of the image so that it looked extremely faded and then flipped it horizontally to create an opposite effect.

These are some extra images that I took for the ancillary that didn't make it to the final edit.

Progress Log 15/12/15

The focus of today was on some editing of our music video and uploading the footage we shot yesterday that involved the couple scene. From this we plan to upload another draft to our shared blog.

I have also finished putting together the back of my CD.

Well done Canisha- some nice images here- upload any images you've taken and show how you have manipulated them. Don't forget that you only need to do a homepage for the artist.

Progress Log 14/12/15

Today I edited the gallery page for my webpage and inserted images. I have ensured that I maintained consistency with the colour scheme and I have opted to use an alternative layout for the images that I haven't seen on other pages.

I have also done some more work on my digipak with the main focus being on the CD disc. I have used Serif Page plus and paint to crop the image into a circle and then crop it even further. This was a challenge to do as I only had a rough idea on how to achieve it but in the end I carried out some research and these are the results. I am planning on possibly putting clouds on the right hand side to show a contrast between the crashing waves, which represents the chaos and then the clouds for calm. I am using all my own images that I have captured for the ancillary.

Progress Log 12/12/15

Today I carried out some further construction of my webpage. I had added another page 'about', which gives a description of who James bay is and his history. I felt this information was essential to connect the artist with his new and existing fans that wanted to know more about him and how he came about. The colour scheme for the page has followed through with the light grey background, white font and gold title.

Progress Log 11/12/15

In our lesson today we decided to capture some more footage for our music video to suit the new narrative. Our location were the woods and we were shooting with James Bay's love interest to capture her emotion following the break up. We felt it was a fitting location as it could be a way to openly express her feelings as well as match the opening scenes of our video with James.

Progress Log 10/12/15

The main focus for me today was on constructing my website and editing my digipak. The process has being going well so far and I haven't enquired any major difficulties.

I have also added my second image to my digipak and selected the shaking head image as I felt the affect fitted well with the front cover and also part of developing the identity for the artist. This is because I feel
During the editing process I also tried out several filters and effects until I decided to use a warmer colouring and also a film grain effect. This makes the image have a hipster effect and also look rather dated. It is also a transition from the black background on the cover to the white which elaborately allows me to introduce an additional colour scheme.

I also have plans to take some more images for the CD and the back cover.

Progress Log website 09/12/15

OLD

NEW

These are the changes and additions I have made to the three pages of my artist webpage. I have made sure there was a consistency with the colour scheme with the main colour being grey background. I have also kept to the same colour code and added the locations for the shows.
For the news page, I have made each of the posts short and contained as I wanted to maintain the readers attention and also put across as much information that I could.
Additionally, from my website analysis a few posts back I encountered a pattern of consistency between the website and digipak of Hoziers webpage and album. I have so far achieved this with the two as the main colour scheme for the digipak is black, white and slight warmer tones. Whilst the website is black, white and cooler tones. There is no major variation between the two, which I believe helps create an identity for my artist that the audience would be able to identify.

Progress Log 08/12/15

We have taken on board the comments and decided to go along with the suggested new story line that James and the girl (Oriana) were in a relationship until they broke up. Towards the end the two make up and they return to being in the relationship.  We believe that this is more reflective of the lyrics and really ties in the visuals.

During the editing process today we have also found that some of the clips that we initially placed in the video i.e the dark solo scenes had a low quality in comparison to the other clips and therefore created an inconsistency. Therefore, we have decided to replace this with more romantic shots to show the relationship as well as give a character development for the female love interest.

Audience Feedback for draft 1 of music video

We carried out audience feedback from our target audience made up of a boy and girl aged 17-19. The information that we were provided with is very useful and allowed us to understanding the successful aspects of our video and things we may need to improve.

Photoshoot images

Digipak progress Log 08/12/15

This is the image that I have selected to go on the front cover because it is a close up shot of the artist. This gives a clear line of sight for the audience when they see the CD cover. I also feel like this image conveys the idea that he is looking above at the sky as if something is happening, which links to the album name 'Chaos and calm' as that could be what he is looking at. The image portrays the vulnerability of James and therefore makes him more relate able for the audience. It also creates a connection between the artist and audience as he is revealing more to them through his music on the album.

Progress Log 08/12/15

This morning we have been carrying out some editing on out music video following the feedback we received from our teacher the other day. We are going to superimpose the rest of the flashbacks to create a consistency and fluidity throughout the video. It would also be a good opportunity to show our editing skills and originality.

Music Video feedback

My teacher had a look at the music video from the start to the end. We were provided with some useful feedback in regards to what went well in the video and what could be improved. The teacher said that she liked our choice of framing and the variety of shot types. On the other hand, there were a few things that were picked up about our video that weren't good such as the quality of shot, story line and our editing. This suggests we need to spend some more time on these areas and ensure that we make the appropriate adjustments to improve our video. To make these improvements we plan on reshooting some of our scenes in order to improve the quality, research some more editing techniques online and lastly, to inserting or re-arranging the order to distinctly show the story line.

Progress Log Website 03/12/15

My main focus today was conducting further constructions on my website. Following the photoshoot the other day, I have uploaded my images and edited them. I have used on of the images for the main background of the page as I liked the white background and the action taking place. I achieved this with a canon camera and slowing down the number of frames in order to capture this image. I feel that it helps for the brand and identity of James Bay as though he's is in his own head and that it shows his fast paced lifestyle. There is also a consistency with the colour scheme with the black, white and blue.

Progress Log 02/12/15

The focus for today's was the construction of my digipak plan and adding features that I thought would make it better.
Yesterday, I successfully took photos for my website and digipak and I am happy with the way the photos turned out.

Keep up all the hard work. In terms of your ancillary tasks, the prezi on homepages needs a bit more focus on all the elements used in terms of moving images/videos/galleries etc so that you can assess how interactive it is for the audience. Then link this back to an album digipak as the other ancillary and make links in terms of house style- colour/font/layout etc to see hoe these two products promote the artist.

Progress Log 01/12/2015

The aim for today was doing some more editing on our music video. We faced an issue when we got our video up on the Mac as some of our footage had been erased or moved further down the song. This meant we had to spent time sorting it out but having the parts of the video deleted allowed us to create an some even better edits.

Progress Log 30/11/15

The focus today was on my website for the artist. I have been looking at other artist websites that are within my genre and have been inspired to go for a minimal look.

Previously, I had decided to go with the idea of having a moving gallery on the top of my page but i found that it gave my page a messy appearance, so instead I removed it and kept it plain.
Another difference between the first edit and the second is the background, instead of keeping the template image I got when I first started the page, I looked for a similar image to what i was going to get from my photo shoot. This allowed me to make a better plan of what the page would look like once I got my photos done. I like the transparent text boxes that enables readers to clearly see the image as well as read the text.

Progress Log 27/11/15

Our focus today was on the editing of our music video. Already we had formed the main body of the video by filling in most of the gaps as can be seen on the bottom of the image. We also decided to insert our black and white filter to create the black and white effect, which is known as 'destaurate' to show the audience the flashback.

Progress Log 26/11/15

The main focus today was on my website for my artist. I have decided to create the website using Wix, which is an online website builder and it has been very helpful in producing the page. So far, I have created the title of the artist and it looks like this:

The background colour is mostly likely going to change once I have uploaded the images of the artist so that I can create a fluidity and consistency of the page based of the colour scheme of the photoshoot and my initial plans. I like the font that I have selected as it is clear and easy to read as well as being sleek and modern, which is the type of brand I want to create for James.

During this construction process of the website I have also added some social media links and styled the menu bar to resemble as much as possible the original plan that I created. I am considering making the social media links black and white to follow my colour scheme as at the moment it stands out and creates a contrast against the rest of the items on the page.

Our focus for today was on the editing process of our music video. After successfully shooting the music video and getting all the extra footage we needed.
I have also started constructing my website for the artist and that is going well. Lastly, the photshoot has been scheduled for next week so I will be prepared to upload the images.

Website Plan By Canisha Chakadya

Draft 1: Having looked at several indie artist websites I have found that it is a common feature to have a moving image or video at the top of the page, which I liked a lot and thought I could feature on my page. Also I have found the importance of having the artist name clearly displayed on the page as that allows the audience to identify who the webpage is dedicated to. I also kept in mind my target audience when it came to the Twitter feature as that is a popular social media platform amongst 16-26 year olds. Lastly, the layout is clear with the latest music video at the top to draw the audiences attention when they click onto the page and then the menu bar on the right side. This feature goes against common convention of having the menu bar on the top of the webpage as I feel the content of the main page should take up most of the audiences attention.

Draft 2: I decided to have a second attempt at planning my website layout. I found features that I could introduce in this newer draft in comparison to my first one like social media links that fans can click on to go to twitter, Instagram , Facebook etc pages. I felt this would connect the artist and listeners even more and allow them to keep updated on what is going on in Jame's life. I also found that changing where some of the features like purchase album details from the bottom of the page onto the top would increase audience awareness of the new album and get them to purchase the album. Additionally, I have played around with the font to see what worked better as in draft 1 I used 'Delphi sf' then in draft 2 I used 'Weathered SF' and I found that I preferred the 2 font. This opportunity to plan the website allows me to play around with what I like and don't like and ensures that I avoid making any mistakes.
