Progress Log 27/11/15

Our focus today was on the editing of our music video. Already we had formed the main body of the video by filling in most of the gaps as can be seen on the bottom of the image. We also decided to insert our black and white filter to create the black and white effect, which is known as 'destaurate' to show the audience the flashback.

Progress Log 26/11/15

The main focus today was on my website for my artist. I have decided to create the website using Wix, which is an online website builder and it has been very helpful in producing the page. So far, I have created the title of the artist and it looks like this:

The background colour is mostly likely going to change once I have uploaded the images of the artist so that I can create a fluidity and consistency of the page based of the colour scheme of the photoshoot and my initial plans. I like the font that I have selected as it is clear and easy to read as well as being sleek and modern, which is the type of brand I want to create for James.

During this construction process of the website I have also added some social media links and styled the menu bar to resemble as much as possible the original plan that I created. I am considering making the social media links black and white to follow my colour scheme as at the moment it stands out and creates a contrast against the rest of the items on the page.

Progress Log 24/11/15

Our focus for today was on the editing process of our music video. After successfully shooting the music video and getting all the extra footage we needed.
I have also started constructing my website for the artist and that is going well. Lastly, the photshoot has been scheduled for next week so I will be prepared to upload the images.

Progress Log 19/11/15

Today's focus has been on editing the footage with our main focus being on the chorus. Alongside this I have been making the final plans for my photoshoot that will be featured on the website and digipak.

Website Plan By Canisha Chakadya

Draft 1: Having looked at several indie artist websites I have found that it is a common feature to have a moving image or video at the top of the page, which I liked a lot and thought I could feature on my page. Also I have found the importance of having the artist name clearly displayed on the page as that allows the audience to identify who the webpage is dedicated to. I also kept in mind my target audience when it came to the Twitter feature as that is a popular social media platform amongst 16-26 year olds. Lastly, the layout is clear with the latest music video at the top to draw the audiences attention when they click onto the page and then the menu bar on the right side. This feature goes against common convention of having the menu bar on the top of the webpage as I feel the content of the main page should take up most of the audiences attention.

Draft 2: I decided to have a second attempt at planning my website layout. I found features that I could introduce in this newer draft in comparison to my first one like social media links that fans can click on to go to twitter, Instagram , Facebook etc pages. I felt this would connect the artist and listeners even more and allow them to keep updated on what is going on in Jame's life. I also found that changing where some of the features like purchase album details from the bottom of the page onto the top would increase audience awareness of the new album and get them to purchase the album. Additionally, I have played around with the font to see what worked better as in draft 1 I used 'Delphi sf' then in draft 2 I used 'Weathered SF' and I found that I preferred the 2 font. This opportunity to plan the website allows me to play around with what I like and don't like and ensures that I avoid making any mistakes.

Location list

Location List

As a group we have been looking at potential sights for our music video. We looked for places that suited and represented our main themes that we wanted to portray to our audience.

LOCATION 1:

We liked this location because how natural and calm the atmosphere we would be able to portray. It would work really well with the indie theme as we stick to the low budget approach they often go for in music videos. This location would be used for our present scenes and the flashback scenes as we want to show the audience how the friendship used to be in comparison to what it is like at the moment.
The location in the images has no restriction or rules with the use however, we need to keep in mind that as it is a public park there might be people walking about. The other issue that we may face is the weather for when we choose to shoot as rain would affect our cameras or make it difficult to shoot.
To overcome these two issues we will stop recording when people are walking about or be aware of their presences. Then with the weather we will make sure we check out the forecast in advance to ensure we reduce the chances of rain interfering.

LOCATION 2:

We liked this location due to unique appearance and how aesthetically pleasing it would be for the audience. This location is also very popular for students and young people and therefore it was very fitting to feature this location with our target audience in mind. The surroundings and colour schemes would also look very nice in black and white when we edit it as there are no harsh tones. We plan to use this location as part of the flashback to portray the friendship of the pair as the audience will make the assumption that it is romantic however we want to show that for the two it was a place for friends to hang out.
One of the problems we may face with this location is that because it is a business and privately owned we would need the managers permission to film here. Another thing we need to bear in mind is that there will be customers who may affect the shots we want or may not want to be filmed. Therefore, we need to be aware of this when we film.
To overcome the first issue, we had a discussion with the manager and she granted us permission to use her location. In return for the access to the shop, we will recognise her business in our video by having shots of the title.
We plan our film times to be for when the business is less busy like the morning or evening to avoid the customers and also not interfere with the day to day running's of the business.

LOCATION 3:

We have chosen to shoot some of our scenes outside this house and in the bedroom. The reason behind this choice was because we felt it suited our narrative of seeing James's life and that also involved his room. This location is very effective as we will be able to control many things like no passer-by and also the fact we can make changes in layout for the room to suit the scene. The bedroom would be a great location for the scene that involves an emotional James following his rejection and to capture him on his own strumming along the guitar. Also the bedroom is decorated to fit a male teenagers room and the audience can familiarise themselves with that and also clearly identify the location when watching.

LOCATION 4:
The local train station will be a great location to capture the opening and closing scene involving James and his love interest Oriana.

progress log 12/11/15

The main two focuses for today's lesson were on editing the shots that we recorded and filming final scenes. We have found that we will need to manage our time more effectively in order to produce our music video to the best standard and therefore place more focus on the editing area.
For the filming, we took multiple shots of our artist singing on their own with the guitar and hanging out with the 'love interest'.

Photoshoot plan

Inspiration and Ideas

As seen with the style of shots there is a pattern on how I want my digipak and advert to look like. I was thinking about taking lots of head shots of my artist from different angles as I feel this is an effective way to brand my artist as he will be identifiable. I also feel that head shots reveal to the audience who the artist is and that they are unafraid to express themselves and show who they are.
The photos will be simple with either a black or white backdrop as it keeps it as minimal and also gives me the opportunity to show my creativity as I will edit the photographs. The images also follow the indie image that can be seen by a lot of artists within the genre like 'Ben Howard', 'Nick Mulvey', 'James Blake'.

Progress Log 11/11/15

For the past few weeks we have started the filming of our music video. The majority of our video has been captured and so the editing process can begin. During the filming process we realised how useful the storyboard has been to us for knowing what scenes we could capture as well as the timings of the shots. Although, we have not been precise in capturing shot by shot that we had originally illustrated on the storyboard as we came up with new ideas or faced obstacles along the way. For example, we found that one of the locations that we wanted to use (the Cookie Jar) was undergoing some renovations, so this meant that we could not use and had to look for an alternative location.
